Coffee Breaks are 30-ish minute chats over Substack LIVE with the paid members of this community. It’s a chance to learn more about them and their work and talk about some of the real challenges and opportunities as a food writer today.
The whole time Kimberly Nichols and I were talking I kept trying to remember this Joseph Campbell quote: “The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.”
Kim’s story is proof that Joseph Campbell had it right. In this conversation, she shared example after example of how she’s transformed the things she was afraid of into something beautiful, expansive, and enriching. Rather than live a constricted life, she’s shown us what it looks like to step into the cave and emerge with a chest overflowing with treasure.
This was a truly delightful and insightful conversation, and I’m certain you’ll feel the same way.
About Kim
Kim describes herself as a lifelong writer and avid reader but what she doesn’t tell you is that she has a culinary degree and an MFA, and was the first person in her family to go to college. She is a self-described reformed picky eater who writes about many things including how cooking saved her from drowning in grief. She has also been writing on Substack since early 2022 and her archive is a treasure trove of stories and recipes you could get lost in for hours. It will also make you hungry.
Join me on October 29 for what will most definitely be an interesting conversation about taking chances, finding your own way in life, the power of writing, and how doing the thing that scares you can change your life.
