Notes From May 6 Meeting
On Loving Bread, Taking Donkey Steps and on Tapping Away Your Frustration About Unsubscribes
First things first, the group agreed unanimously that we will no longer be recording our Europe/Africa/Asia-Pacific calls, unless someone will do a masterclass, in which case we will record and share it, so others can benefit. We believe that the conversations we’re having feel intimate and meaningful and that recording would feel like we’re on a talk show and none of us want that. So I really want to invite you to join us and take part in these conversations.
There were six of us on the call today, including a new member Wendy Shillam, and several regular participants: Amela Marin, Lizzie Wingfield, Wendy Trollip, Bruce from The Lemon Grove and myself, Liza Debevec.
The conversation started with speaking about the values of bread and how it has been getting bad rap recently, and even people who don’t have gluten intolerance seem to refuse to eat bread these days. I think most if not all of the people on the call are Team Bread. Amela, Wendy S and Lizzie have all written posts about bread and you can check them out here:
We talked about taking small, donkey steps, towards our Substack goals, about how to show up on Notes, and about the confusing space that Substack editing/setting area can be. Here is a video of what donkey steps could look like on the Swahili island of Lamu, off the east coast of Africa.
In the end, after expressing how frustrating it can be to get our friends and family to subscribe or press a like on our posts, and how painful it is to see the unsubscribes after sending out a new post, we talked about letting go of that and considered what could be a healthy way of doing that. And I remembered a post I read recently, by Carla Mardell, that offers a EFT session to deal with the frustration of low subscriber numbers. Check it out:
If you’re reading this and have thoughts on bread, donkeys, EFT tapping or anything else we mentioned, do share them in the comments. And consider joining next month, if your time zone allows it.
If you are not lucky enough to be in a time zone compatible with our meeting, there is the US time zone meeting next week, Wednesday, May 13 at11am New York (Eastern Standard time) hosted by Rebecca Blackwell. You can register at link inside this post:
Until next time, may you take donkey steps, eat bread if you fancy it, and, most of all, enjoy life.

Good unanimous decision to keep the session private and unrecorded, I’ll be more likely to attend in future. Such an inspiring group of writers coming together to talk is something I’m interested in, see you next time, life and work commitments allows.
Thank you, Liza. You did a great job!
Lisa, do join us if you can. It’s been fun and inspirational. And I always learn something new.
