Creating a Values Led Brand
A conversation with Liza Debevec and Rebecca Blackwell
What does it actually mean to build a values-led brand as a food writer? That’s what Liza Debevec and Rebecca Blackwell will be talking about in this Substack LIVE conversation.
We’ll talk about why branding starts with knowing yourself and how your values shape the way you write, the stories you want to tell, the opportunities you say yes or no to, and the kind of relationship you want to build with your readers.
This will be a relaxed discussion about what it looks like to create a brand that feels personal, clear, and sustainable. We’ll also share why this kind of clarity can make it easier to make decisions, communicate your work, and build a business that feels more aligned with the things that are most important to you.
If you’ve been thinking about how to define your voice or build a brand that feels genuinely like you, this conversation will give you a starting point. It’s also a preview of the ideas we’ll dig into more deeply in our full two-part workshop, Creating a Values-Led Brand.

About your hosts
Rebecca Blackwell
Rebecca Blackwell is a writer, recipe developer, food photographer, with two recipe websites and a Substack newsletter that’s read across all 50 states and in 91 countries. In 2020, Rebecca and her husband sold their Colorado home, moved into a 5th wheel RV, and began traveling full-time across the U.S. In 2025, they added a sailboat to the mix, spending summers on the water. Her nomadic life shapes most of the recipes she creates and readers can be assured that if they work in her tiny kitchen, they’ll work in theirs! She’s been cooking and baking professionally for nearly 30 years and published over 1600 recipes. In addition to writing, Rebecca teaches weekly cooking classes on Substack and leads a monthly mastermind group for food writers.
